In support of the former view, educators often state that it is far more beneficial for students to be streamed so that their learning time can be better utilized given that the class learns at the same speed. Even if a teacher pitches the class to be at an average level, the weaker students will still struggle and the higher performing ones may feel bored and disengaged, resulting in a lack of enthusiasm in their studies.
As for the notion of mixed levels collaborating in the classroom, the merit of this is that it creates a culture where students learn communal respon sibility rather than being individualistic. Having stronger students assisting weaker ones makes them realize that there are times in aperson’s life when it is moralistic to ensure the improvement of everyone’s welfare, which is mirrored in societies and neighborhoods around the world.
From a personal perspective, I am more partial to the concept of classrooms with varied levels given the need for modern societies toregain that communal spirit and strength that is becoming less evident thesedays due to the advent of commercialism. Parents of high achieving students may claim that their child will not learn if he or she is placed with academically challenged ones, however it must be remembered that if they collaborate successfully with each other, students do learn other skills that are useful in later life.
