阿联酋包括阿布扎比、迪拜、沙迦、阿基曼、乌姆盖万、哈伊马角和富查伊拉7个酋长国。除阿布扎比酋长国外，其余6个酋长国都设有各自的自由区。阿布扎比酋长国只设有工业区，没有设自由区。目前在阿联酋共有14个比较活跃的贸易自由区。其中，迪拜酋长国有8个自由区，沙迦酋长国有两个自由区，其它4个酋长国各有1个自由区。
设立贸易自由区的主要目的是为了实施经济多元化战略，促进本国出口，增强对外开放度。

一、自由区向投资者提供如下优惠鼓励措施：
1、外资可100%独资，不受阿联酋公司法中规定的外资49%，内资51%条款的限制。
2、外国公司享受15年免除所得税，期满后可再延长15年的免税期。
3、资本和利润可自由汇出，不受任何限制。
4、无个人所得税。
5、进口完全免税。
6、货币可自由兑换，不受限制。
7、无繁琐的官僚办事程序。
8、注册手续简便，不会产生问题。
9、自由区内有现代化的高效通讯设施。
10、有较好的基础设施。
11、能源供应充足。

二、各酋长国自由区如下：
(一)迪拜酋长国
到目前为止，迪拜酋长国共有8个较活跃的自由区：
1、杰拜勒.阿里自由区　(Jebel Ali Free Zone)；
2、迪拜机埸自由区 (Dubai Airport Free Zone)；
3、迪拜网络城　(Dubai Internet City)；
4、迪拜媒体城　(Dubai Media City)；
5、迪拜珠宝城　(Dubai Gold and Diamond Park)；
6、迪拜汽车城　(Dubai Cars and Automotive Zone)(DUCAMZ)；
7、迪拜知识村　(Dubai Knowledge Village)；
8、迪拜五金城　(Dubai Metal & Commodities Zone)(DMCC)。
