Dubai: The customs authority on Tuesday foiled an attempt of a Dubai-based salesman to smuggle 24 kilograms of heroin concealed in secret compartments at the bottom of his suitcases.
The heroin belonged to an Asian passenger who was arriving from his home country at Terminal 3 of Dubai International Airport.
Ahmad Mahboob, Director of Dubai Customs, explained that the smuggler, identified as M.B., intended to sell the narcotics in the country.
“The smuggler naively thought he could fool Dubai Customs inspectors and get through customs unnoticed. But the inspectors picked up on his suspicious behaviour when officers at the internal equipment section saw his five pieces of luggage.”
